As the largest land carnivores currently on the planet, polar bears are fearsome predators and the masters of their Artic domain. But do these hulking animals also have a softer side toward each other, or are their mating behaviors just as cold and unforgiving as their frozen habitat? It's not unusual for a male to track and follow a female for many miles, and males may even try to herd a female to isolated areas on the top of islands, in small bays or up on high cliffs, in an attempt to monopolize mating and reduce competition from other mates. However, observational studies suggest these attempts fail more often than not, given that females are frequently seen among groups of competitive males. They also have "guard hairs" on their forelegs that are noticeably longer than those on females.

By Chris Spargo For Dailymail. Reports, now proven to be false, that Leonardo DiCaprio is raped by a bear not once but twice in his new film The Revenant had many wondering about the sexual habits of the large land mammals. And while they have not be known to ever rape, sexually assault or even hump, a human in modern recorded history, they do have very unique sexual traits. Male bears tend to spend days courting a mate after fighting off other bears, and eventually, after having sex, both move on. The animals are also very promiscuous, and in some cases seem to have sex for pleasure as noted by the study of two captive male bears in Croatia who engaged in oral sex 28 times over the course of six years.
